Your Ultimate Guide to a Weekend in Pigeon Forge, TN

Your Ultimate Guide to a Weekend in Pigeon Forge, TN

Is your family planning a trip to Pigeon Forge, TN? Here's a complete guide to help you plan the best trip ever!

Recently, my family and I went on a vacation to beautiful Pigeon Forge, TN. Tennessee is a gorgeous state and has so much diversity, you could never get bored. You could be sitting smack dab in the city sipping coffees at a high end coffee shop, then thirty minutes later in the middle of nowhere taking a hike with the stunning smoky mountains as a backdrop. It's the perfect place for families to get away for a quick weekend trip or even a week long venture.
My family and I chose to take a weekend trip due to work schedules, but we wished we could have stay longer!

If you're wondering where to go on your next family vacation, I highly recommend you visit Pigeon Forge. It won't disappoint! My family has been vacationing there for years, so I know the best places to go where you can have fun AND get your money's worth.

Where to Stay

 Rivers Edge RV Park

Rent a cabin or camp out at Rivers Edge RV park

We had seven people in our group, so figuring out where to stay was kind of difficult! We didn't mind separating, but we didn't want to be too far apart from each other or spend way too much money on accomodations. My husband and I have a camper, so we decided we would just camp. The others, however, decided to rent a log cabin. We researched a lot of cabin rental companies in the area, but none of them even compared to Rivers Edge. These cabins were beautiful and had a stunning view! They were secluded, but still close enough to the city and all its attractions. My husband and I even got a riverside campsite, which was wonderful because we got to see ducks roaming around on the rocks. And as always, the staff at Rivers Edge were wonderful. They were so friendly and professional, and the campsites were well taken care of. We really enjoyed our stay! And the best part is, the prices for the campsite and the cabin were VERY reasonable! I can't recommend this place enough!

Music Road Resort Hotel

If camping or cabin living isn't your thing and you're looking for a nice hotel in the area, this is a wonderful option! We stayed here a few years back and we really enjoyed it. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were really clean, and there was also a mini water park at the hotel that we really enjoyed swimming at. The prices were also very reasonable!

Where to eat:

 This was DELISH!

This was DELISH!

Sawyers Farmhouse Restaurant
I cannot even begin to describe how AMAZING this restaurant is! I had seen several reviews about this place before, but we never went to it before this trip. I'm so glad we did! We ate there every morning of our vacation. It was that good! This restaurant serves breakfast all day and has a variety of different menu options. My personal favorite is the chocolate chip waffle (that's as big as your head) with the homemade peanut butter syrup and homemade butter. It was delicious! You cannot leave there without trying that syrup! They also have home fries and bacon that will make your mouth water. My husband also raved about their French toast. So many options to choose from! I can't wait to go back.

Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen
We have one of these near where I'm from and we go every once in a while when we are in the city. Their chicken pot pie as well as the honey butter croissants are TO DIE FOR. They have a huge variety on their menu and you always have something new to try. It's definitely a great family friendly option!

Must-See Attractions

Cade's Cove Scenic Drive in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
This is my favorite attraction to go to when visiting Pigeon Forge. It's a nice little drive out of the city (about 45 min to an hour) but SO worth it! This is a scenic drive that goes through the valleys of the mountains where you can see wildlife (Hello black bears!), historic landmarks, and hike through beautiful nature trails. As you go through the route, you will pass two churches and old wooden houses that you can get out and go explore. This is a place where you can learn lots of history about the Great Smoky Mountains and the people who lived there. This is always a nice, relaxing adventure to go on when you just want to get away from the city for a little while and really explore the beauty of the mountains.

The Dixie Stampede

This is an awesome attraction for anyone at any age! My family's favorite part about it is the food (such a surprise 😜) The meal includes a personal sized whole chicken, pork, corn on the cob, baked potato, cheddar biscuit, veggie soup, and an apple turnover. All that plus a show! It's extremely entertaining and the performers put on a show you will never see anywhere else. They do chicken and pig races, musical numbers, horses jump through rings of fire, and much more. They even select a few audience members and kids to come down into the arena to play games. When we went years ago, my mom and uncle were invited to go down into the arena to race on stick horses. We definitely got a laugh out of that!

The Hollywood Wax Museum
This was definitely something unique and different for us to see! We didn't get to visit the museum on this past trip, but I wanted to include it because I hate we missed it this time and it's such a fun place to visit! This is a fairly new attraction, and it's really popular. As the name suggests, there are wax figures of celebrities and other famous people all throughout the museum you can take pictures with, as well as interactive games for the whole family to play. It's really cool and the admission price is very reasonable!

Hillbilly Golf in Gatlinburg
If you love mini golf, this is the place for you! It's a short 15 minute drive from Pigeon Forge. When you get to the register to buy your tickets, you grab your putter and wait in line for a chairlift to bring you up the mountain. There are little courses all down the mountain that are all "hillbilly" themed. They even had a regular sized actor as an obstacle in the course. We really enjoyed it!

Dollywood Amusement Park and Water Park
We didn't make it here on our last trip either, but we used to go all the time when I was younger. We loved it! I think the names speak for themselves on this one. This is a great family friendly place to let your kids explore for a day or two!

There you have it, a whole weekends worth (or more) of things to see and do in Pigeon Forge.
