Are you and your husband struggling to conceive? Do you need a little hope? Here, I'm sharing all about our infertility story and 4 things we did differently last cycle to increase our chances of conceiving.
I still can’t believe that I’m actually writing this.
It’s been about four weeks since my husband and I found out the life-changing news that we are going to be parents! Wow, that’s a feeling that just doesn’t compare to anything else. That moment when you find out there’s a little human growing inside of you, it feels like your heart is going to explode with so much joy and love. It’s a feeling that I hope every woman will get to experience in their lifetime!
But, this moment didn’t come easy in the least. We struggled to have this baby. We prayed, wished, and cried for this baby for more than two years. It is something I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. But now, looking back on all of this, I can say that it was all SO worth it! The joy of seeing those two pink lines on that pregnancy test is something my husband and I will never forget.
If you have PCOS and/or are struggling to conceive, let me give you some hope today. You CAN get pregnant! Your dream of being a mother is not impossible.
When I was diagnosed with PCOS in May of 2016, I thought my dreams of becoming a mother were crushed. I thought that God had failed me and left me broken up inside. Little did I know he was only preparing me for a miracle by having me grow during these hard times! It forced me to trust in Him and realize that He is in full control, not the other way around. I just wanted full control of my future, but God taught me that’s not how it goes. He showed my husband and I so much love and grace through these two years, and it’s easy to see that now looking back.
When I got my positive test and announced it to my OvuSense support group (I’ll go into more details about OvuSense soon!), many ladies asked me what I did different this cycle that helped me conceive. I thought I might as well write a post about it! I hope this can encourage you and possibly help you get your BFP soon!
I want to clarify, though, that ultimately God is the one who blessed us with this baby. I want all the glory to be given to Him! The doctors we have and tools we used were all a huge help, but I want to give all of the credit to the Lord. This was a HUGE miracle and an answered prayer!
Also, I am NOT a doctor. Every person and situation is different. Please seek medical advice always. This post is not intended to be a replacement for medical care. Be smart y’all!
So, here are the 4 things we did differently this cycle that helped us conceive:
I purchased OvuSense instead of using ovulation predictor kits
This is one of the most important products I’ve used throughout my infertility journey. I HIGHLY recommend this over ovulation predictor kits any day. If you didn’t know (I had no idea!), OPK’s are usually not reliable at all for women suffering from PCOS. If you’ve never heard about OvuSense, though, let me explain a little bit about it. It’s a high-grade medically certified device that has been proven to be 99% accurate. You wear it like you would a tampon only when you are sleeping (it’s very comfortable! You can’t tell it’s in there and I never wear tampons), and it records your average resting body temperature. It comes with an NFC reader that you can attach to your phone in the mornings, and there is an app that records that temperature and puts it into chart form. After you wash the sensor, you place it on the NFC reader and it records your temperature into the chart. After three consecutive rises, that means that you are going into your fertile window! OvuSense will notify you that you are ovulating and, hopefully if you conceived, your temperature will keep rising. So cool, right?! Here is my BFP chart:
You can go to their website to get more detailed information, as well as purchase this device! I’m telling you, this was CRUCIAL to my success in getting pregnant! I would have never known I wasn’t ovulating if I hadn’t used OvuSense. It tells you SO much about your cycle so you can get the help you need. They also have an AWESOME Facebook support group to help you during your infertility journey and the ladies there are just absolutely wonderful. They are so supportive and will help you anytime you need it. I can’t recommend this product enough!
We switched doctors
This was a super huge help as well. I have been to three OBGYN’s in my lifetime. The first one was absolutely horrible. She didn’t listen to me and never took anything I said seriously. The second one was okay (the one who actually diagnosed me with PCOS), but she didn’t want to help me until I “lost weight” (that’s kind of impossible with PCOS!). But since I switched to my recent OBGYN, I was pregnant within a month. He is SO caring and truly wanted to help me and my husband conceive. As a matter of fact, when I came in after the positive test, he hugged me and told me he was SO incredibly happy for me and my husband. I don’t know many doctors who do that! Switching to a doctor that would help me was so important to getting that positive test. If you aren’t happy with your doctor or he/she won’t help you the way you need help, don’t be afraid to change! It could turn everything around for you!
I took 1,000 mg of Metformin daily
The first thing my new doctor did was prescribe me Metformin, a blood sugar drug that treats diabetes, to help balance my hormones and insulin resistance. Man, can I just tell you how much of a difference I saw in myself?! I don’t know if it was because my hormones were balanced, but I felt so much better after I started taking it. He also made me aware that my Vitamin D was at a dangerous level of 15 (normal range is 30-100) and placed me on vitamins after I told him how I was struggling with vertigo and dizziness every single day of my life. I think that was one of the things that made the biggest difference in how I felt, and also aided in conceiving. I was on Metformin and 3,400 IU’s of Vitamin D3 for less than a month and I immediately got pregnant! My doctor is keeping me on Metformin throughout my whole pregnancy because it drastically reduces the risk of miscarriage in women with PCOS. Metformin isn’t for everyone, but if you think it could be an option for you, ask your doctor about it at your next visit!
We put it in God’s hands
After two years of struggling with infertility, I TRIED not to let my hopes get too high this past cycle (even though we know that’s so hard to do!). I prayed and asked God to do His will whether or not it was what I wanted. I relaxed, focused on Christ and spending quality time with my husband, and just enjoyed life. It was actually something I needed to do for ME! And you know what? It paid off. I’m so glad God has decided to bless us with this miracle that we have been praying for since we got married!
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” Jeremiah 1:5 Steven and I are SO excited to announce that Baby Weaver is making his or her appearance in the fall of 2018! 2 and a half years of praying, wishing, struggling and many emotional days were all SO worth it. MY GOD IS AMAZING!!!❤️ He answers prayers! We couldn’t be more excited and thankful to God and all our family and friends for praying with us. 💕
I can’t wait to show you more pictures, share with you more memories, and give you my tips/tricks/advice that I will learn along the way of being a first-time mom. If you are still waiting on your little miracle, DON’T GIVE UP! God truly hears our prayers and I know He will bless you in HIS time! I am praying hard for you!
