This snowman paint n' pour party is a fun and unique Christmas date idea to try with your spouse this holiday season!

Christmas is finally almost upon us! And I am SO excited about it. I find myself even celebrating before thanksgiving *GASP*! Oh the horror! ;)

In my family, Christmas is a huge deal. When I was growing up though, we never celebrated or put any decorations up until right after thanksgiving dinner. As I'm growing up and starting my own family, things are slowly changing. We most definitely still celebrate thanksgiving, but it doesn't hurt to go ahead and start putting a few Christmas decorations out! Steven and I love to get crafty during the Christmas season. And to save money, we love to make our own decor. It's even better if it doubles as a date night!

Have you ever attended a paint 'n pour class? Sometimes they are called paint 'n sip or paint 'n drink. It's where you go to a local art studio and a teacher shows you how to draw and paint a picture on your own canvas. They usually have snacks and drinks (most have wine), and it's just a nice little holiday get together that you can go to with your friends and family. Steven and I have done it before and we loved it. We just celebrated our second wedding anniversary and I thought, man that would be a great anniversary date for us to go on! But unfortunately as broke college students who just took a trip to Disney World, money was extremely tight. So I got to thinking, why don't we just do our own at home? There has to be some great tutorials on YouTube. So that's what we did!

I went to the store, grabbed some canvases and some paint, and looked all over YouTube for an easy beginner painting tutorial. I was surprised to see a lot! There were so many to choose from, but I finally narrowed it down to this adorable little snowman and cardinal painting. I tried to pick something that would go great in our house!

I even made some cute printables to go along with our snowman theme!

The Invitation

I wanted to give Steven a little teaser at what the night would entail, so I made a cute little invitation and texted it to him (to save ink!) while he was at school. He was SO excited to get home!

*TIP* If you want to text your hubby this invite instead of printing it, download the PDF on your phone, screenshot the invite, then use your phone's editor to draw in the When and Where fields!

The Decor

Then of course I had to make a few decorations! I thought these artsy Picasso quotes would go great in a picture frame on the art table. It would have also been super cute to have confetti (snowflake confetti!) on the tables, but I didn't have much time to prepare unfortunately. I'm the world's best procrastinator! And our printer decided to run out of ink, so I couldn't display any of these! But don't worry, I've tested these out (in black and white) and they even look fabulous with no color!

The Food

Then I had to make the food label cards, because a party isn't a party without the food! I've included six blank cards in the package for you to print out and label all the party food you have. These food label holders would be super cute and go with the winter theme perfectly! We had dinner and dessert first before we started painting. I made an appetizer, dinner, and dessert. I made our theme Italian, but when you plan your date be sure to make whatever you and your spouse like! But just to give you some ideas, here are the things I made:

Appetizer

Sausage cream cheese dip - brown your sausage and drain it. Mix 8 oz of cream cheese in and heat until cheese is melted. Easy peasy! You can even add some Rotel for some spice! Serve with Ritz crackers or Wheat Thins.

Dinner

Olive Garden Garlic Rosemary Chicken Copycat - man I wish Olive Garden would have never taken this off their menu! It was absolutely delicious and I've been craving it for the longest time. This is a great recipe to try at home! I wouldn't say that it tastes EXACTLY like Olive Garden's chicken, but it is still delicious!

Homemade Olive Garden Breadsticks - I think these would be SO good if I hadn't screwed them up. Ha! I didn't pay attention to the directions beforehand and didn't realize they needed to rise for an hour, then be rolled out, then they need to rise ANOTHER hour. We were starving, so we just let them rise for one hour. Didn't taste exactly like Olive Garden's, but I have a feeling if I would have made them the right way they would have turned out better. They were still good though!

Fresh green beans - this is my own recipe and these are TO DIE FOR. Boil fresh cut green beans in chicken broth, 3 tablespoons of butter, garlic, salt, and pepper for at least two hours or until soft. They went perfectly with this meal and I can't wait to make them again!

Dessert

Chocolate chip cookie skillet for two - this is a favorite in our house. We make it all the time! Pair it with some butter pecan ice cream and your good to go!

The Painting Tutorial and Materials

Like I said before, there were TONS of tutorials on YouTube you can choose from. If you want to stick with the snowman theme, just search "beginner painting tutorial snowman" and lots of them will come up. If you want to do the same one we did, here is the video below. This lady does a great job of teaching you step-by-step how to draw and paint this beautiful canvas! Don't forget the materials! Here's what we bought:

Paint colors (some of these are not the exact paint colors she recommends in the video, but since I was limited with time I coudn't order the ones she recommended and had to use mostly what I had on hand. They worked great for us!)

The Private After-Party

I don't think this one needs much of an explanation ;)

We had so much fun and I cannot wait to do this again with another painting! *Excuse the mess in these pictures. Just being real with you guys on how date night goes! :) *
